Started reading Eclipse Phase, a transhumanism scifi, horror and conspiracy tabletop RPG rulebook. Basically it is Deus Ex, Dead Space, Pandorum, Event Horizon, System Shock 2 and a bit of Mass Effect bundled into one and more.
In the game's world of tomorrow humanity has advanced to the next step in evolution where man and machine have become one. You are able to upload your consciousness into a HDD and switch bodies ("morphs" in the game's universe) as you see fit and/or the mission demands. And if you have the money and/or resources, you can't actually die since you can download your backup into a new morph, "re-sleeve" yourself so to speak. And these morphs come in various forms depending what functions they have and what needs they need to serve such as bodies designed for combat ("fury morphs"), infiltration, data mining and more. Some are human in appearance while others are more animal-like. Oh, and there are sentient animals too. You can play as a cephalopod if you want (humans uplifted various animals into sentience back in the day).
Earth has been ravaged into a nuclear wasteland in an event known as the Fall when a group of seed AIs who reached singularity became self-aware and multiplied, then waged a devastating war against humanity and suddenly disappeared. Earth is off-limits because of the toxins in the atmosphere, the remnants of the AIs roaming the surface and other hazardous things that lurk under the dust clouds.
And other fun stuff like that. There is certainly potential for all sorts of adventures from corporate espionage to treasure hunt on the surface of Earth (and other planets). You can also step into a Pandora gate and travel to other systems if our own solar system doesn't provide enough excitement.
Good times.
Oh, and if you are interested in the game, you can pick up the PDFs for free from one of the designer's blogs. Since they are the cool cats that they are, they are providing the core books for no fee as downloadable material
